india is a developing country. there is great economic disparity in india. there are very rich people - multi billionaires like mittal who has the most expensive house in the world. then there are poor people who dont have water and die of starvation. it has more than a billion people in its population and of varied cultures. there are 1850 dialects in india, 18 official languages |

Not at all. The economy of India, when measured in USD exchange-rate terms, is the twelfth largest in the world, It is the third largest in terms of purchasing power parity. India is the second fastest growing major economy in the world, with a GDP growth rate of 9.4% for the fiscal year 2006–2007. |

no, but it has a really high inequality. like there are people who can afford to buy the most expensive jewelries and whatnot, but a lot more who cannot afford to eat 3x a day. |

NO. there are some small areas that r poor, but all countries have that. the media simply shows those areas, and make it seem like a poor country. Most areas r pretty wealthy or well off. Racists think its like everyone on the streets. i hate media for this. |

you are definitely not from India, else you would have worded your question differently. India is a country of contrast. the richest men are Indians and the country has the potential to carry on with an awesome GDP growth of 10% and more for decades. yet ironically there are at least 20% indians who cannot afford two square meals a day. under the circumstances hard to say whether india is poor, but what is certain is it is badly administered, with corrupt politicians, indifferent and extremely corrupt bueracy hence the dicotamy. |

The media say such thing to you to please their audience, but not always the media tell the whole story about such topic. Maybe the media in your country says that the country is poor, but there are a growing economic boom in India today. It is true that India is a poor country, but to say that India is the way how the TV shows to you is untrue. There is poverty line in India, but the major cities in India have a big market places and it is the land of cinema called Bollywood. |
