If a cell phone is stolen, can we get it back if u know the IMEI number?
i mean , if i give a police complaint and also inform the mobile service provider. How do they track it? dothey really track every cell IMEI number and catch the thief , when hundreds of mobiles are stolen everyday., and the thief anyway removes the simcard and switches off the mobile
When you make a phone call by a mobile, a special number is saved at the service provider. Even if you change the sim card, the same number will be sent by the phone. So theoritically, yes they can trace whomever stole the phone even if they changed the sim card. Unfortunately, police don't do that even when it is possible except for a very serious reason like tracking serious criminals. Anybody caught with a stolen phone can simply deny the crime and claim that he/she bought it as second-hand. Service providers encourage phone owners to use a special lock feature in the phone which will make the phone useless if you changed the sim card.

It is not worth it. Get another cell phone.

You may not be able to get the phone itself back, but if you know the serial number of your phone you can call the provider and they can prevent it from being used, so it's of no good to the thief.

It depends on the telecom service provider.
The last time I lost a phone, BSNL said they had stopped tracking lost phones using the IMEI.

Probably not. Unless the phone was used in some kind of abduction, the police do not ususally contact the carrier to retrive it. It is very time consuming and expensive.

Call you own cell phone and tell the guy you want your phone back because the police are tracking him down right at that moment...tell him if he returns it, you'll take back you police complaint (but don't!! just trick him into believing you!)
hope this works :)

i dont think so but you can cancil it so no one else can use it then buy a new one! but you may be able to track it the same thing happened to me...
