You will have a wonderful time (I am assuming that his family has accepted you).
It is not dangerous. You are with a Indian and he will not let you be alone - so rest assured that you will enjoy your trip.
Be open minded about the cultural differences and accept the pollution for what it is (there is nothing you can do about it - so there is no point being perpetually disgusted by the country due to it), also be ready to see many, many, many, people as it is overly populated and crowded. Make sure you take your anti-malarial medication, do not eat from the streets, and make sure you drink boiled/filtered water (your host family should know what to do), carry your own bottle of water from home. Being summer - take lots of cotton clothing (nothing exposing - you will get stared at - maybe lewd remarks). I would not advise short skirts or shorts in the public as you may get harassed. Capris, T-shirts, light cotton shirts, long dresses - all are acceptable.

u really must be thinking wrong.Since u r an american u will get all the respect u can get.If u just smile at them and say"hello",their hearts fills with joy to hear an american talking with them.Just chill out and visit India.

U will be totally safe. Its not insafe for American women in general, but its better to be on the safer side then regret it, sicne you are unfamiliar with the people and places, avoid to explore things on ur own. Its best not to put urself in the situations where people can take advantage.

No probs. Just don't go any where alone. Stay with a guide every time, when you go any where, as you might find some difficulties while communicating with others and bargaining for prices. Since you're a foreigner, the auto ricksaw driver (in your place it's called taxi) might charge extra. And also, please don't go any where during the nights as India has so many cases of people missing. Take care. Please do visit our country once atleast and look out life styles, heritage and culture. But the only thing is that, it will not be like your hometown, as our trends are entirely different than yours. Even, the english what you speak might not me clear for many here.
