Incredible INDIA? Is this not embrassing truth about India? |
this is embrassing to be asking this question, first of all, i apologize
well, I was in a meeting today and someone pointed to the Taj Mahal, then that person said he visited it but there was piles of garbage just behind this Taj. Well, then it continued on to his experience of seeing a toilet that is but a hole with the little tap to do the job. (i don't find much wrong with it, it's just a method, anyway)
Then, finally he said that - he saw people deficating on the railroad tracks along the city??
I know that he is nice person and did comment about people in Delhi being very courtious to him & were nice.
It wasn't too much of an embrassment for me (the only indian), but it's eating me to think,
Why CAN"T Indians take care of this business properly???
(so that tourist's from other country -don't go telling other people about this ****.) Additional Details I want to know - what am I say or do.
Don't ask me to put- kinda brave face in a situation where people are talking sh*t about this country. and they are not lying, it is true from my knowledge.
Now, finally I have an answer why other people don't want to be there. hence low tourism, despite great culture. |

If he meant it as a simple description of what he saw, simply reporting the facts then I see no problem. Some people like to give extra information just to validate their trip, to prove they have really been and seen, so by saying things like this it may make him feel more authentic as a traveler especially if they went on a nice all in package as opposed to a hands on backpacking trip.
I won't reel off the countries I've traveled through where I've seen this but it does happen so don't be so hard on them. Yes it's unpleasant but I assure you it will not put people off visiting India just like it would not put me off visiting other countries again even though I know this kind of thing occurs.
Please don't take offense, I've traveled and seen this in many areas, I've even seen human excrement on the ground in the UK. OK so I wouldn't condone this but some people, in whatever country you are talking about will do this for a number of reasons, (eg necessity, caught out, lack of education, personal circumstance).
If he continues to demean India by using this however, you can point these facts out to him. |

Yes, it is very embarrassing. Several years ago there were huge Air India advertisement hoardings in the major cities. The Maharajah felt embarrassed too. He was closing his eyes and the slogan said "if you must answer nature's call, must you do it in public?"
It is difficult to attract tourists to a dirty country with uncleared garbage heaps and public places littered with trash. Education is the only solution. And education should begin with MPs and MLAs, most of whom are illiterate or literate rogues. Imposing fines like in Singapore or Dubai is not the solution, because, it will become another channel for the police to make money. |

all the citizens of india know this truth............we are an educated class..........we know that this mustn't be done............this same thing is not understood by the illiterate class...............they feel if there is space to do sumthing, they can do whatever they want, and a little bribe to the police will allow then to do whatever sh*t like u said...........tell that man who told u about all this that if he is so concerned about india, let him do charity and collect money for the education of india's youth.........50% of india's children still cannot even dream of school because their parents are poor and cannot afford their skooling...........what we all must do is to try our best to provide education in the villages and slums..........these are the people who dirty our country and if we want our country to benefit, we must clean it using our hands and our brooms..........no government is going to do anything......... |

see everything having good and bad aspects and our experiences makes it good or bad ..
well its not a problem for india only, if you find that the people having responsibility for the society and having responsibility for nation then sure things will be fine .... first we need to be responsible for the society then things will be fine and it not happens in single days

ya its embarrassing but this is the real picture of india.every country has its own traditions and culture but i don't know why we think that ours is the good one.its just that its different from other cultures.your ques is valid but what i think is that at least by this we are not giving any glossy image of our country.we are like that,so whats the point in showing that no!! we have developed.but this concept of being "developed" also pinches me.i mean from our traditions and the form of society we have seen that from history people are living by that way only.using toilets or any such thing which makes us feel developed were not there in our country,so people have developed that way.and who these foreigners are to tell that this is developed or not. |
