I don't think India is gonna be a super power. Indians are prepared to work hard when they are in another country, but not when they are in India. With the rising unemployment, poverty, communal riots, terrorist attacks, and disparity between rich and poor, no way India's going to be a superpower.

India in my opinion is already superpower with its emerging market, with its industries & education sectors doing well, the young population of India is yet another factor which could enhance the chances being the next economic nerve centre of Asian Market.

Definetly India will be a Super power if they can come over some of its defects .
1.Corruption----in the Govt.sectors/Govts.
2.The terror attacks
3.The Communal fights among them
4.No Concentration on non IT sectors/Manufaturing/engineering
5.Illiteracy among the Population

I hope They will overcome all the above in near future.

China will get there before it but it has the chance. Indias/Chinas major problem to getting there is because of the massive populations, there is far too much poverty. Saying that though there is actually only 1 true super power and thats the USA so if countries like GB, France, Germany, Japan etc can't manage it, it will be very, very, very hard for these countries. Nuclear powers and economic superpowers maybe, not actual superpowers.

*edit*People who think it is or will be need a reality check, look for the literal meaning of superpower. A lot of them will say a country able to militarise in far away continents. Can you see the day when India could single handedly send basically its whole military to say Brazil? I think not. Can you see the day when India has 90%+ numeracy and literacy? Not in my life time. Can you see the day bombings, assassinations and riots are not seen as the norm? Long way away yet. What about world leading healthcare? A fully maintained, health and safety conscious road and rail system? How about Americans and Europeans moving to India? Not any time soon. It is possible but its hundreds of years away yet. These are all needed before India is even seen as a modern day world leader. Like I said USA is the only true superpower(I am not American)USSR and the GB empire were. India could be classed as a great power(look it up)like France, GB, Russia, Italy, Japan etc, they are a nuclear power and can be an econimic power, nothing more. The only country in the world that can affect everywhere on the planet in one way or another is the USA. NOBODY can deny this and that is the definition of superpower.
