Indian students' life: study, study and study?

Its a fact that most of the children who go to school study hard. The main reason for this is competition or say demand supply equation. India is a country with second highest population in the world and comparatively smaller geographic area than USA or China.

For example, unlike USA, India has very few elite universities which are into good research and which have good standards which can not cater to 100 million budding engineers/doctors. So if one has to get into the best university which accepts only a few hundred students every year, he/she has to compete with thousands of other students which makes it highly competitive. To survive and win the competition people have to work very hard and thats what has been happening for past few years. Population of India has been growing exponentially where as the resources are limited which makes things even more difficult. So year by year you find more people competing for those limited resources.

Its both good and bad thing that such level of competition exists. Thankfully things have changed quite a bit in recent times.

I know what you mean, i have never known a country to take education so seriously, i guess its because, we in the west take it for granted and do not appreciate what we have, while in India, to do well in life and get ahead, Education is all important. but then look at India now. its coming along in leaps and bounds. something must be working

Dont worry they hv different kind of fun they depend on there parents for everything ,food shelter ,clothes ,school fee books advice and so many other things that u r blessed here.u r comparing apples and oranges here .I do understand ur point of view but india is lot different then where u r .

Well, its kind of true that kids there are forced into studies , its partailly becoz of society u can't imagine if ur kid fails the exams everyone frm relatives to neighbours just spit comments on kid and u.and parents want their kids to be bright in studies bcoz their is no future in sports most of the time other then cricket and so study and get job is the only option left most of the time.and i personlly believe that if u want to study and if u are good then u can enjoy even with a tight schedule i enjoyedd hell lot in my schools infact more then my american life,dude u can't see when students get time if ur nt, but they do get lot of time to enjoy morethen other country's.

It's not like that u can make ur timetable.......n ofcourse follow it......I m an Indian n i get time for playing and other activities.....if i wouldn't have got time then i wouldn't be sitting on yahoo answers.......and that doesn't mean that i don't study i get sufficient time for studying,playing....etc....

India and USA or European society is different. And therefore it would never match.

One thing is true for India -
If you have more fun during study - you are bound to have more sorrows when you grow up. If you have less fun during study you are bound to get more fun when you grow up.

Our amount of struggle and need fro struggle is much more than the USA or European society.

However most of the parents are going overboard now a days. They want their son/daughter should be like Aisharya Rai, Sachin Tendulkar, Sania Mirja, Kalpana Chawla, Indira Gandhi blended together. So they are trying to achieve everything. Its really mater of pity for those kids.

survival is fittest .. so have to work hard and face world competition. in states you get lot of things very easy due to more resources & opportunities.
