India offers a lot of diversity in terms of tourist options.
If u want ice/snow, try Kashmir or Himachal Pradesh (which I've personally visited, and unlike Kashmir is not terrorist-afflicted). If u want to see wild-life (tiger, in particular), try Jim Corbett National Park in Uttaranchal. There're many nice hill stations- Mussorie, Ooty, Darjeeling, Mahabaleshwar. U can also try Trekking- on snow-covered peaks, on small hills (Western and eastern 'Ghats', which are long mountain ranges respectivel on the western and easter coastlines of India, which is very long in itself). If u want to try marine exploration try Lakshadweep islands on the western coast; they're safer in monsoons (which've arrived as I'm writing this) tha the Andamans. If u want to see equatorila kind of climate with lush green landscapes try Kerala- a stste in southern India, but that place is currently affected by torrential rains. If u want to experience the creativity of Indians, u can go any place, but the best place for artefacts and handicrafts are Gujarat and Rajasthan. The latter also offers the chance to see sands (desert). Maharashtra is a quite diverse with many forts and small hills and beaches, the famous Ajanta and Ellora caves (one of the world heritage sites)apart from of course having Mumbai as its capital- the largest city, which is chaotic as well as grand at the same time with some reminders of the British rule. Kolkata (the capital of West Bengal) is also reminscent of the British era and is close to Darjeeling (one of the hill stations mentioned above).
Of course, u must have heard of the Taj Mahal. Other places worth visiting are Punjab (the agricultural power-house and the land of famous 'Bhangra' music), Haryana, Madhya Pradesh (Buddhist history), southern states (Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh) for their rock temples, cuisine and diverse dance-forms and music.
For more information u can visit the ITDC website (Indian tourism development corporation).
With regard to Indians liking Americans, I for one just don't have any problems, and even though I can't speak for others, I can tell u that Indians are peace-loving and believe in 'Atithi devobhava' (Sanskrit for "guest is God"). Best of luck for ur venture. |

We guys are suckers for goodie goodie guys who appreciate what believe in and what we do.
It is not a question of whether we like Americans or not, because most of us can't even differentiate between an Ameriacan, an Austrian and a Britisher.
So, if you think that India is about camels, snake charmers and sand, then you better do some homework before coming to India.
We have every type of culture and every type of lifestyle here. We have a huge population dammit!! (LOL)
If you like to study things, you should come to India. India is a researcher's paradise.
If you hate sweating, you shouldn't come to India, India is hot & people don't have Air Conditioners in taxis and trains.
If chaotic traffic baffles you, you shouldn't come to India. Indian Road traffic- Ordered Chaos
If you love music, you should come to India.
If you love martial arts, you should come to India.
If you can tolerate loud people, you should come to India.
If you want to discover the meaning of life, you should come to India.
If you want to talk to some geniuses, you should come to Indian colleges and schools.
If you can tolerate seeing poor beggars begging for alms at Railway stations and Bus-stops, you should come to India.
If you can deal with over-friendly guys, you're welcome to India.
PLACES TO VISIT?
THE JOURNEY IS FAR BETTER THAN THE DESTINATIONS. |

Indians tend to stare at foreigners in kind of a rude way, but that is a normal aspect in their culture. Also, it isn't like they encounter tourists on a daily basis, so really they're just captivated by the way tourists dress and act. In general, they are welcoming to Americans, just make sure you eat your food in a nice restuarant because street food will 100% make you sick since you're not used to the environment.
There are several tourists traps in India. Most you can avoid by using logic and common sense, but some you really don't know you've been duped until you've lost your cash.
You can hire a driver (a good one) for about $20-40 a day, and he'll take you where ever you want to go in a specific city and can give you recommendations as to which places are the best to sight see.
As for the best place to visit, it really depends. You want the cold, go to Kashmir. You want to see the famous Golden Temple, go to Punjab. You want to enjoy beautiful weather, go to Bangalore. Really it depends on what you want to get out of your trip, so you'll need to do some investigating first before you leave. |

i can suggest u to visit India during winters(from Oct-Feb).
There are so many awesome places in India where u can travel.
It's not possible to explore whole India, in just one visit.
If you are to visit India for the very first time then i will suggest you to visit West Indian state of Rajasthan esp cities like Jaipur, Jodhpur, Jaiselmer, Ajmer, Puskar, Mount ABu, Udaipur etc.
The best time to visit Rajasthan is during winters here in India.
It's well connected with railways, air and road transport from Indian capital New Delhi.
Also for every visitor in India, Taj Mahal is no1 tourist attraction. Taj mahal is located in the city of Agra, which is near to Indian capital New Delhi.
Apart from this, in north India you can visit Kashmir, Himachal region and south India too is exotic for it's awesome beaches. Noth East India and central India are also awesome places to visit.
All in all..u can't get enough in just one trip. So it's upto you to decide which place you want to visit in your first visit.
and regarding your second question:
Yes most Indians do like Americans, infact my sis-in-law is an American citizen. |
