absolutely, Kashmir is at war. It has been unsafe since the 80s, its pretty sad though, as Kashmir was considered to be one of the most beautiful places on earth, now its considered as hell.
It would be suicide to visit Kashmir now. |

If u r not in military, off course you can visit Kashmir. I was posted there & resided there at Srinagar for 1 year 2003-04. We visited what not, even interiors of the downtown, enormous no of times, Wular lake, Baramulla, Yusmarg & much much more, most of the places on my Byke with my wife. No probs dear. People are so much caring & courteous.
Beware of army men. Don't ever be with them, neither in the city nor on the way. Avoid police. And u will be the luckiest.
Remember I cannot take guarantee , even in Delhi, & so for Kashmir, but will ensure a best visit there. |

Dont listen to any cowered here in the group.. Its a beautiful place and you must visit that. As regards militancy is concerned people who were sitting working at twin towers never ever thought that they would become a history so it can happen any where.
Pack your bag and move ahead, its actually a heaven on earth to explore it... Bon Voyage!!! |

Please visit Kashmir with Good Travel Co. they will take care of you. Indian government has given spacial protection for tourist. But if you want to travel by your self alone it may give you some problem.

Unless you are in the military and have a weapon, I'd strongly advise choosing another destination. |

Not Dangerous at the moment as the tourist rush is over, the only precaution you have to take is stay in LAke area (DAL) Boulevard and avoid going to down town area ,I've just come back from there it is as safe as any city in INDIA!! |

I'M AN INDIAN AND I WOULD SUGGEST NOT TRAVELLING TO KASHMIR FOR THE TIME BEING...AS A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO...INTERROGATION OF A PAKISTAN TERRORIST BELONGING TO LASHKAR E TOIBA( WHO'S LEADER IS FREELY LIVING IN KARACHI) HAS REVEALED THAT THEY ARE PLANNING TO TARGET TOURISTS INSIDE KASHMIR. SO FOR NOW...DON'T VISIT KASHMIR...TILL THE INDIAN ARMY TAKES CARE OF THESE TERRORISTS. |
