Bombay (or Mumbai as it is known now) used to be made up of seven islands which over the period of time have been reclaimed and joined so that in the present day city you will never know whic island (or if at all an island) you are on.
So strictly speaking as it is today Bombay is not an island, eevn though it used to be when the cty was founded and started getting populated.

no mumbai/Bombay is not an island, but it has an island just of the coast from the gate way of India, it is called elephanta island. you need a ferry to get there, about an hours journey maybe less, but it well worth the while once you get there
