Is india a safe place for travelling, especially foreign women travelling alone?
NEW DELHI (Reuters) Jan 21, 2008- Indian tourism officials are meeting this week to discuss the safety of tourists after at least seven foreign women and girls said they had been raped or molested over the past 20 days, a ministry spokesman said.
I'm not saying that raping tourists is common, but India is not a good place to travel alone. Even foreigners that like India often say they would not want to go alone.

I don't understand why anybody should travel "alone".. traveling is a fun and should be shared with someone...!! Further, often one may be cheated easily for being 'alone'.
Now, Delhi ... really becoming horrible for women not to speak of 'foreigners' or 'lonely'...!!! This capital city has earned fame for being notorious for wo/men on the streets visiting places either for touring or for own business ...!!But why .... so many inherent reasons :-
Northern part of India was / is famous for hooliganism ...women are treated as the inferior sex ...Delhi is their hd.quarter.
Delhi has generally no original dwellers ... all coming from outside ..Northern part being nearby ... to earn and to become rich within nights .. no common thread to remain connected... Govt.high-officials are busy with themselves ... VIPs are protected only ... etc etc.
AND...the rest of India is different ...women travelers .... why not avoid the Northern States ....?

Travelling alone to any part of the world is unsafe and I dont find any fun in that.
But dont hesitate to come to India It is really a Good place u would enjoy ofcourse with a someone by ur side
