India is a big country, with millions of people and you can't generalize by saying it's a safe country or not. With the huge population and bad infrastructure I would say it's unsafe. I have had friends who have lost family in accidents involving speeding rickshaws and motorcycles. There is no order to the streets, it's simply chaos. I would say a village in Punjab is safer than the alleys of Calcutta. This is a very broad question.

India is as safe as, and safer than any other country in the world. It is one of the few counties that vibrant economic environment than most of the countries like the US, UK, etc. So you are safe from economy point of view.

India is safe, but there are people who are helping terrorists, giving them shelter, money, men, local information and when they strike, they are provided with hiding places. We should identify these local people and save our country.

It's very difficult to answer this question, but my experience is that, southern part of India is safer than the northern or central.
But again it depends on specific areas/states and governance authority! If we consider India as a whole, it's safe like any other country. We can't judge India by the recent incidents which was quite unfortunate and could have happened to any country.Any way India have a long distance to go on this regard though!

but I still feel safe anywhere in India.
