Sam P

Is it a dangerous time to visit India?

My family is flying into Mumbai (Bombay), India for our sister's wedding shortly after Christmas. The wedding will be at the southern tip of India and will be far away from the dangers going on right now, but my dad is thinking about not bringing me because the terrorists are targeting Americans and British people. Also, my American sister is getting married to a 100% Indian man, so we have been considering that in our decision to go or not. What do you think? I'm a little unclear about everything going on there right now and any explaining would be a big help.

Sadly if you are in the UK, the US, any parts of Europe or indeed anywhere in the world, andthing could hapen. Terrorism seems to happen anywhere and does not discriminate between the young and old or the rich and poor.

Remind him about September 11th and/or the London Bombings in July, terror can strike anywhere. If he didn't take you and something happened to you, how would he feel if he was safe in India.
If you all went and something happend- who better to be with at such a time than your familly?

I hope things work out for you

I SMELL A RAT here...this incident is similar to 9/11 and the London train blast in 2005....do u think this is an INSIDE JOB?

India is as safe as the UK and the US -- terrorism can strike at any time, and certainly it is not at much higher risk than these two countries. We need only look at 9/11 and the bombings in London for proof of that, sadly.

India is not particularly dangerous. I will tell you that I was there this spring when the terrorist attacks were going on in Jaipur, and while it is cause for concern, it's not something you can--or should--work your plans around. I hesitate to say it, simply because it's not strictly true. And because terrorists are always looking to shake things up and be unpredictable. But it may actually be safer now, after such a huge attack. It's unlikely another one would follow again so soon--though they could attack again because of just such thinking as that.

Bottom line -- tell your dad to consider bringing you. It would be a shame to miss or have to re-plan based on such fears.

Go and support the Indians, otherwise the terrorists win.
The south is beautiful and about 700 plus miles away.
The terrorists murdered indiscrimately, even the indian workers in the hotels.
Go and enjoy your wedding, by the way if you haven't been to India before be ready for a very long wait at the airport which will have got worse now.
I am going to Goa on 20 dec for 3 weeks, nothing can stop me.
Remember you can get run over by a bus outside your house.
Live your life free of fear of terrorists.
i have a feeling you are in the US
