if u already know the history of Taj and around the places then u dont need a guide but if u want to enjoy little more it wont hurt to hire a guide but question u need to do home work for the guide who can speak good english and not hook to any local hotels and thugs. be smart in that matter other wise it is good to follow ur guts.near by Taj is Fatheypursikri i dont know if i spell right.that is good place to see too.one food u must try it is sweet called petha.that is good i heard.

There is no harm in taking a guide. After all their families depend on this profession. Take a human approach to this.
Guides will tell you lot of stories etc ( may not be true also) and will make your visit more colourful. Will it not add spice to your visit?

I don't know why you would need a guide.. but they are available. I heard they don't take U.S. Dollars for admission any longer, though.
