Safety is not a matter of where, but a matter of whom.
If you walk with God, you will be safe anywhere.
Don't worry, go to India and enjoy your adventure, Ellen. |

Generally it is safer for woman to travel in metros/ cities.
Generally the south India is safer then north.
Generally some states like bihar and surounding areas should be avoided for travelling alone.
India is too big to answer your question unless you talk specifically about the places you want to travel. |

um, I wouldn't...but then again, I would. (and I have in London and Amsterdam and countless other countries) .... The biggest thing is to "fit in" ... you may not look Indian, but you can act it if you are intune with your surrondings. If you can speak something other then English, use it...there were plenty of times in Amsterdam (very hostile at the time, american flag burnings, start of iraq war, etc) that I was "Canadian" and not American. Use your wits, don't act a tourist/fool...act a local and you'll be fine (but, don't be afraid to ask questions, sight see, etc ... for all they know you just arrived 2 months ago and are finally getting out and about and will be in country for another 10 months with your business company!)
good luck! |

Broadly speaking yes. Especially if you do not go to some eastern states. Also dont try to play around and keep basic rules of a traveller in mind and you will be fine. It is a safe country! |

I was talking to a 50-ish year old lady who had spent a total of 6 yrs in India (not living there, but travelling through for months at a time) by herself and she said she felt safer there than anywhere. Of course, you have to be careful everywhere, and I personally might be more hesitant b/c I'm young and look weak. She really loved it, though. |

I'm an Indian guy and frankly my answer is no.Foriegn women are prime targets for perverts in India.Don't invite trouble by travelling alone-if this is your first time in India. If your accustomed to the country you will know how to stay safe-once you do you can travel here alone. |
