Khan is an Arabic word, derived from the Tartar and Mongol for Prince. The expected religion of a person named Khan is that of a Muslim but there are undoubtedly a minority of Khans who have converted to other religions.

You may be thinking Sikh due to its similarity to "Khalsa" (Sikh brotherhood), but Khan sounds more Muslim to me.

It's a South Asian name. I have known both Muslims and Hindus to have that name. It has nothing to do with religion I think. But most were Muslims.

Khan is a general name like Smith. You have Hindus, Muslims(Imran Khan) and others including the odd christian.

It's Muslim. It's orignally Mongolian like Kublai Khan or Genghis Khan, but when the Mongols conquered Muslim lands and integrated Muslims began to have that last name too and I guess it came to India along with the Muslims and got integrated there too, so maybe non-Muslims might have that last name, but it's still a Muslim last name.

Names don't go with religions, a person has a name - then a religion, of their choice.
