Raksha bandhan is the more proper term for the holiday.Rakhi is the band that the sister ties to the brother on that day. The festival is called "Raksha badhan" in hindi. People often abbreviate it to "Rakhi" for the sake of convinience.

Palak B
Raksha Bandhan is the full name, but the holiday is commonly called Rakhi.

Same thing.

Its actually raksha bandhan, which means the knot of protection/ trust (raksha= protection & bandan = knot). Rakhi is just a colloquial name.

Historically the day when sisters tie a 'rakhi' on their brother's hand who pledge to protect them from all problems throughout their life. :)

Both are the same thing, different peoples use different term.
Its the festival in which sisters tie a band on brothers hand.

ash m
raksha means protection, bandhan means tie/bond. raksha bandhan is the correct term for the holiday signifying the protection tie / bond. Rakhi is the thread that is tied to symbolise this bond. AM

swathi s
rakaha badhan means sister bother bonding rakhi is the band which sisters tie for there brothers
