Go to Mothercare (yes, you read it right) and on the counter they sell insect repellant bands that look just like friendship bands.

They're only £2 each, last for weeks and you can wear them on your wrist or ankle 24hrs a day so your never without some protection. I use them all the time as i travel 6 months of the year, they're brilliant.

I was in Jalandhar in Punjab a few months ago and had no problems but i would take a band and another repellant too

Make sure all your jabs are upto date, see the doc to make sure, hide your money and don't carry much around with you and carefull with cameras, flash watches, etc.

Then just enjoy, .

Like Somonelse on this page said anything with Deet as the active ingriedient. Best thing to do is get it over there in the pharmacist its soo cheap compared to the UK! I spent 6 months outh there recently and trust me just get it over there, i'm sorry i cant remeber the name of it but anything with deet.

JeffE
Citronella.

MJ
Plus a nice Gin and Tonic in the evening.
One of the other contains something (sorry, awful with details today - Quinnine?) that mosquitoes and their associates dislike, so they'll stay pretty far away from you.

You need one with deet, its grey from boots lid

MagicalPixie
locally available, odomos and mosfree. both r effective in INDIA

RAMSBOTTOM
BUY IT WHEN YOU GET THERE.
THEN YOU KNOW ITS FOR THE RIGHT INSECTS IN THAT AREA

Try cyanide ;-)

I imagine any of the good brands would work. The country you visit doesn't matter, just that you take bug spray if you are going somewhere with mossies!

If you are going to stay in a hotel of 3-4 stars or superior category, there will not be any mosquito menace and be assured on that. This problem is specially taken care of in these hotels.
During day time or during travel there will be no mosquitos around.

DEET is the only ingredient that's been proven to work. Go for something with at least 25% DEET but no if you're pregnant or breastfeeding.

In the UK Mijex spray is excellent, or some of the Jungle Formula range.

The best i have ever used is one called Skin So Soft by Avon of all people. Everyone i know uses this and swears by it. My brother in law was out in Iraq and reckons it was the best. It isn't even a repellant but somehow works. Try it!!

There's a really good cream called Odomos which is sold in india. It works really well and smells nice too.
I also tried a neem tree oil, which is probably good, but smelled so bad I couldn't use it...
