Can an indian guy really change? (please answer only if yuo have personal experience with India or Indians)?
To make the long story short...I had a Long distance relationship with an Indian guy ...
connaught place is a center of scams. there are so many people there trying to take advantage of tourists. i personally really do not think that it is the best place to stay in dehli.
i was in delhi last month. we were in a tour group and we stayed at Swati Deluxe in Karol Bagh. here is a link to the "hotel". http://www.nivalink.com/swatideluxe/index.html it is, in fact, not so deluxe. but it is not bad in indian standard, compare that to other hotels we stayed at during our tour. there are many hotels in karol bagh. they are not tourist class hotel, more business class. so not as expensive.
you have to be very careful with strangers esp auto rickshaw drivers. there are some very convincing liers. even subway staff would over charge you b/c you are a tourist.

If you dont mind staying a little away from Connaught Place, I'd recommend to stay somewhere near Paharganj. It would offer you many options to stay apart from hotels & connectivity from Paharganj to Connaught Place is also very good.

Cheapest Place to stay near Connaughht Place for girls is Y.W.C.A. It is only 500 meters from C.P. Being part of christian missionary organization, it is bound to be cheaper. MaIl me if you need phone numbers also.

Yup.. the YMCA and the YWCA are the safest places places to stay in CP. Both have decent rooms. In addition to safety factor.. both are easily accessable via auto / bus / local trains/ subways.
You might get cheaper options however be very careful.... Enjoy
