Chidambaram is between Cuddalore and Mayiladuthurai in South. Currently no train service is available. The only mode to reach Chidambaram now is by road. From Chennai the route is Pondy, Cuddalore and Chidambaram. Every 15 minutes bus service is available and it takes around five and half hours from Chennai.

Chidambaram is 225 Kms fro chennai. there is not railway connection at present. You may go bny bus this buses operating via Pondicherry. All the buses start from Koyambadu bus stand. If you are near to Adayar or Tiruvanmiyur then you can board the bus there it self.

There was a metre gauge train starting from Tambaram. That was suspended for gauge conversion work. If you are very particular about travelling by train, you may travel up to Villupuram or Pondicherry and go by bus to Chidambaram. But that would be a tedious and circuitous journey.
