After landing in Kochi spend one or two days in and around the town.
Then you go to either Kovalam or Silent Valey.

From Kochi airport itself you can hire a taxi and go straight to Munnar its a tea growing hill station at around 2000m - 5hr drive (much longer from the city (Ernakulam) as Nedumbassery airport is VERY far away). Spend at least 2 nights, then go to Thekkady (Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary) - situated in dense rainforest at 1600m - spend at least 2 nights and remember to take the 1st i.e. 7am boatride for optimum wildlife viewing - elephants guaranteed. Scenic drives along both the above routes. From Thekkady, as you say you want arts and culture as well, then you could go through to Madurai - 6hrs, overnight and see the famous Meenakshi Madurai temple, an architectural masterpiece. From Madurai you could also do a day trip to Rameswaram and back to see the ancient temple (longest corridor) and beach. From Madurai you can take a flight to Chennai and do short trips from there - check out: www.tamilnadutourism.org; ttdconline.com
Alternately from Thekkady you can go to Kumarakom, Kochi, Trivandrum, check out: www.keralatourism.org - The temples at Thrissur, Guruvayoor and Trivandrum are architecturally splendid and famous. Enjoy your trip. |

if you only have 1 week, don't try to see too much. i would stay in cochi, and take a day trip or overnight trip on the waters inland, but that's about it. cochi has all kinds of old temples, a jewish community that dates back 1000 years, and live music and dance. get up early and watch the fishermen pull in their nets. congratulations and have a good time. |

Ooty, Kodaikanal, Coorg and Munnar are probably the most sought after honeymoon destinations in the south. but at this time of the year all these would be too cold and not worth visiting. best times are between Aug and Nov. Next best bet is Kerala. Its a fine place. Places like Kumarakom and Allepey are good. Especially the boat house in Allepey where they take you on a very slow boat ride through the back waters is superb. They do have excellent packages for honeymooners and is quite safe. My suggestion would be to try either of these places. Did I miss something...oh yes chennai...its pretty cool now and good to visit. You can try one of the beach resorts like Fisherman's cove or GRT Temple bay......they are top of the shelf and pretty nice for couple of days stay. It all depends on your budget.
So, try one of these and have a gala time. Cheers! |
