That's a bit tough...For younger people I would say cosmetics, hair products or scents...even, good bags or shoes...not to, really, be found in India...
For older people, probably, something for the home, For Display! Indians like to show their precious belongings on their shelves. Something unique or different...not costly...just different.
All women like jewelry...does not have to be of the expensive kind...just different.
and...of course...anything, gadgets, for the kitchen. Food is so important in Indian life...anything useful in the kitchen is entirely wonderful....nice to show off and great in practicality.
Just bring yourself, your open heart and hand....Lots of pictures...and stories...bring your camera...so you can take a lot more and leave copies for them...
If you can get away with it...and you usually can without problem...bring some food items that they may have never tried... My Indian friends and family love Parmesan and Black beans...also Pretzels...Avacados are a little tough...so is Basil...not Tulsi, real sweet Basil...but if you can...I know they love it.
I am only brainstorming...like I do any time I am forced to come back to this country (U.S.) for family events ... I know I have to think of something before going home to India....so, really I hope this helps...I was interested in this question to answer some of my own...hopefully we will get some more answers. everything is cheap tat in india, you got to go there a few times to realise this, bar expensive jewels/gold,anything else would not be worth your while, would be to heavy and expensive to ship over, never bother buying souvenirs, you will hate them when you get home, but the sari's make good drapes for your windows

Cheap gifts are not appreciated. Everything is available in India.
Love and affection is the best gift.

you can buy them some religious book - like the bible or geetha or quran..
if they are music buffs they get them an oldies collection like Mohd Rafi, Lata mangeshkar, etc etc..
you can try getting them useful accessories for their old age which they would really appreciate.. a walking stick, glasses.. etc

you want to buy cheap gifts in india? where are you from?? india is not an expensive country (unless you're buying expensive luxury real estate in mumbai or something). you will be able to afford just about everything (gifts, handicrafts, silver jewelry, saris (good silk material), books, shoes, vcd's, etc...
have a nice trip!
