Proud to be an Indian...
India is one of the most attractive tourist destinations in Asia. Bounded by the Himalayan ranges in the north, and surrounded on three sides by water (the Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal, and the Indian Ocean), with a long history and diverse culture, India offers a wide array of places to see and things to do.

Perhaps India's best-known site is the Taj Mahal, one of the world's greatest architectural achievements. It was built between 1631 and 1653 by Emperor Shah Jahan in honor of his wife, Arjumand Banu, more popularly known as Mumtaz Mahal. The Taj Mahal serves as her tomb.

One of the popular tourist circuits is called the Golden Triangle: the cities Delhi; Agra (site of the Taj Mahal); and Jaipur. Delhi is approximately 200 kilometers away from Agra, and 250 kilometers from Jaipur.

India also has a large variety of protected wildlife. The country's protected wilderness consists of 75 National parks of India and 421 Sanctuaries, of which 19 fall under the purview of Project Tiger. Its climatic and geographic diversity makes it the home of over 350 mammals and 1200 bird species, many of which are unique to the subcontinent. Some well known national wildlife sanctuaries include Corbett, Kanha, Sariska, Periyar, Ranthambore, and Bharatpur.

Rajasthan
Rajasthan, the "Land of the Kings", is one of the most tourist destinations in Northern India. The vast sand dunes of the Thar Desert attract millions of tourists from around the globe every year. Major visitor attractions in Rajathan include:

Jaipur - The capital of Rajasthan, famous for it's rich history and royal architecture
Jodhpur - fortress-city at the edge of the Thar Desert

Just to emphasize what Piker said.......The ghats are fascinating in Varanasi. I loved being there. Go at night for the ceremonies. Early morning take the boat ride down the HolyGanges River. Watch the sunrise! We also witnessed a cremation. It was a life altering experience. I envy you going!

Land up in New Delhi.
Keeping it as a base do a day trip to Agra to see The Taj Mahal. Its a beautiful piece of architecture and will make your jaw drop with awe.

Visit various historical monuments in Delhi for a couple of days. Its a great mix of history as well as the most contemporary.

Visit Jaipur which is onlr 4 hours by road from Delhi. Spend a couple of days there.Lots of forts and palaces to explore in and around Jaipur.

Visit Varanasi - The oldest known city in the worls ( over 5000 years old ) It has millions of temples, many forts, palaces, the holy river Ganges with mystical ceremonies around the riverside.

Visit Mumbai for a couple of days. Take the overnight boat ride to Goa. I'm sure I don't have to say anything about the world famous destination Goa.
Attain nirvana in Goa.
