Mumbai is no more cosmopolitan. It has become a poor man city ? |
Everywhere gutter and water. Traffic Jam. Slums and huts. More metal sheet constructions than solid structures. The real estate prices more than any international city, but without any facilities. |

Mad rush to Bombay in search of a job has made it what it is. Apparently there is no solution except, people should get horrified by the city & leave it.
In Bombay, u need either a lot of money (but with that u can be comfortable in any other city) or live like pigs. |

Mumbai is definitely cosmopolitan. You have the richest people staying there, and the poorest also. You have the hindus, muslims, christians, parsees, sindhis, gujaratis, marathis, jains, punjabis, bengalis, biharis etc in good numbers. Mumbai pays I guess 40% of the direct & indirect taxes of the nation. So it certainly is'nt a poor man's city. Yes the ratio of its resources to its population has beomce very small. In that respect it's people have become poor. Mukesh Ambani may have all the money in this world but he may not have a decent park to stroll in the evening.
As for the infrastructure problems....its the same with all other cities in India! It's simply a case of mis-governance by our inefficient politicians. Agreed that the population of our cities is way too high, but so is the case with cities like London, NewYork, Hongkong, or Sydney. They're simply better managed.
The government of India has not done much to develop the villages, or other smaller urban centres over the last 60 years. We're having to build flyovers in Mumbai and other metros, but in lesser cities we do not even have pakka roads. We're talking about storm water drainage in Mumbai, but most towns dont even have simple drainage facilities. Since cities have better facilities then villages or samller urban areas, industrial clusters or company headquarters came up mostly in urban areas. So you have an Infosys come up 30 mins from Bangalore rather than in some discrete village. The result! More job opportunities in cities than villages, so people migrate more from rural to urban areas. Since more people stay in a city, better are the opportunities for creating social infrastructure as in schools, colleges, clubs, multiplexes, cinemas, theatres, beauty parlours, and so on, which in-turn means more jobs....so more people move in.
Imagine, if 20-30 cities in Maharashtra had developed like the way Mumbai did from 1930s to present, Mumbai would'nt have been overcrowded as it is today.
Nonetheless, the law of averages is finally going to catch up. The high cost of living in Mumbai will mean lesser people wanting to stay there, more companies opting out of it, and hence jobs will shift to other cities. |

Mumbai is not a poor man city monetarily. In fact there are more rich than before. But if we look at another angle - like attitude, cleanliness, helping fellow people during travel, kindness towards its animals, greenery, honesty etc. it has become poor than before. I believe it is clear.
Thanks

Mumbai is the heart of everyone.
it gives shelter from the richest to the poorest, you should not have this feeling for such a beautiful city.Don't every time see to the wrong side of Mumbai.
There are rich people like Ambanis,Tata,Birlas,Mafatlal,
who are from the mumbai root.
it is said by you that real estate prices are more than any other international city, then you tell me how can it be a poor man city.
You should not say wrong of the place where you live.
Try to improve it if you can,but if you cannot please dont atleast say wrong about the city |

Dear, there is a problem in your looking. It is one of the best city in the world.
what u think ?, the poors are not human being. This city is the best for poor and rich. No one become rich, if there is no poor in the city. If you having any problem than you are independent, select the country/destination where you like but mumbai is the best.
I am not a resident of Mumbai, but I travelled may time. and I love every state of India. Because I love my India. |

The city where you can buy a Rolls, a Bently, a Lamborghini or a Ferrari, I don't call it a poor man's city.
And if you think poor man makes the gutter, pores water on the road and makes traffic jam, then that is porbably the funnyest argument I ever came accross.
All said and done, may be Mumbai is not the right city for you. |
