it depends on the part of india in which u r going to wear sleeveless! yes it is so much against their norms. i cant say culture as india is a country representing Kamasutra! and women are wearing blouses under sarees which are so open and moreover their belly is visible. but in big cities like delhi, and bombay its so normal to wear whatever u want in jeans and shorts or sleeveless, but in small cities its a matter of everybody staring at u ! when i first arrived in india two years back i had a visit to the city called Karnal and i had to stay there for 17 days, i couldnt find any girl wearing sleeveless in all this time, and even being a foreinger appearing in sleeveless and jeans was like so uncomfortablke for me that i started covering up! ladies are all in saris and salwar suits there.
in my view u can wear whatever u like but only after observing the situation, the norms and the values which the people have in that special part of the world. so that u wont look like an aliegn who has come from Jupiter or Mars! lolll
otherwise india is a free country to its extent, i mean u cant appear naked, but u can wear freely within the accpeted social decency norms. |

They really don't have much of a culture... what they have is a vast and varied means of suppressing woman. |

Your view is against the culture and not the sleeveless dress. You know earlier women use to wear very thin dresses as well sleveless. Just to safe guard themselves from lusty males, they started covering their genetal parts.* |

India is a free country. I dont see any indecency in wearing sleevless by women. |

Sleeveless does not mean obscene.
Also if the dress has sleeves but all other parts are inadequate it may be obscene.
Indian culture is little conservative however the present day girls dresses are defeating any of the world standard. |

its not basically against indian culture but some group of ppl have made it their habit to attach everything with culture and value. nobody could say you anything in India about wearing sleeveless top. ppl of India are becoming open minded day by day. and i think it was just in our history that sleeveless blouses were awkward. u can where anything you want but it should not be too much vulgar(and would be better if doesn't contain the Indian flag). |

There is no such thing as wearing sleevless is against the Indian culture. its just a missconception that people have about India. I am an indian i dont see any one objecting to me wearing a sleevles or top the thousand of other women out ther who can be seen wearing sleevless. |

Culture ? Or prejudice ?
How can things be 'against' what is only a norm or trend - it's like saying vegetarians are against French culture - coffee drinkers aganist English culture
At best Meaningless - but possibly prejudiced. |

Ladies have full right to dress as per need. Ladies know dress, colour, design. All want to show. |

Nothing is indecent about women wearing sleeveless dresses if onlookers eye and mind is pure, wearing a saree and blouse showing tummy is not against Indian culture, why not show arms and shoulders. Not our culture but few people with narrow thinking consider it indecent who have not stepped into the modern free society of ours |

one should always go along with the fasion trend .but in india its agnaist the cultre.i think wearing sleeveless is not a big crime to be punished or send to jail. |

Raju hasn't said that she feels that it's indecent, she's just asking what peoples' opinions are of the statement. It's true, SOME people do think it's indecent. Obviously, none of the people answering this question feel that way.
I am not Indian, but I do have a lot of experience in India, have lived there for nearly two years and am engaged to an Indian man. My view is that it is perfectly fine to wear a sleeveless dress in India. In fact, I wear them quite frequently when it gets too hot and humid.
I would never wear a short skirt in India, but that's mainly out of self-preservation! |

it is all about mental thought and thinking. India is always a country surrounded by myths and heritage, so thinking is quite obvious. |
