This Hindu Muslim divide is more Political than anything else.

general relations between hindus and muslims are normal in most of india. In places like gujarat the divide is politically created.
but on an individual level, most of the crime commited in most metros is by the muslim people. this has more to do , with their lack of education, poverty, large families (an average muslim man has 5 or 6 children) etc. politicians too have expoited this for getting elected. a major factor is that while individualy they get along well, hindus do not trust the muslims . and experience has shown that worldwide terrorism is the handiwork of muslims . U dont find Hindu,christians or buddhists in the al qaida or other terror groups.

The relations between Hindus and Muslims are not conflicting
on individual levels, they co-exist and go on their daily chores peacefully notwithstanding the vast difference in their attitude, education and/or economic status. In fact there are great frindships existing among them. My kids have quite a few Muslim friends among them and they visit us regularly.

However, the politicians are hellbent upon to create problems between them for their vote-bank politics and they have been successful to a certain extent at least on community level.

I believe there is a conflict. It all has to do with the caste system that is supposed to be considered illegal, but it still exists.

Socially or individually there is absolutely no problem among Hindus and Muslims of India in any state. I have many Muslim friends. We mix up just like any two friend should be. I am from India. I have friends in Pakistan. We do not remember who is Hindu or who is Muslim.

The problem arises be the political leaders of both the community. If all the communal leaders of India and Pakisthan is moved to Antartica all the probkems and issues of Indian sub continent would be resolved.

India is a country of one billion people out of which 160 millions are Muslims. Except for a few no other problem has occurred in India. Only the Muslim majority state of Kashmir wants to join with Pakistan for the obvious reason of their religion. They have driven out the Hindus from that state. In all other states there is no problem of religious conflicts as India is a secular state. Practically all political parties and leaders support Muslims because Muslims vote with a crowd mentality to Muslims only or who support Muslims.

My housemate is Hindu Indian and she has no problems with Muslim Indians.

Well as a person living in 4 countries I think the true relationship between Hindus and Muslims exist. North India is different from south India. South Indians tend to be very god fearing whereas the north like muslims as they are more muslims are there. I don't like muslims as we don't have common interests they keep on fighting with us. I don't like muslims coz they have beaten one of our family members. So they are bad, we are badder.
