Route through Solapur and Pune would be the safest and fastest. Approximate distance is 750 Km +/- 25 km depending on your starting point in Hyderabad.
Basically you have to take NH-9 until Pune via Solapur, then NH-4 (Mumbai-Pune Road) within Pune City and finally NH-50 (Nasik Road) until Nasik.

Following is the detailed road-route assuming you start from Kukatpalli or Lakshmi Nagar Area in Hyderabad:

1.Start going north (towards BHEL township) on Kukatpally Main Road (NH 9) and drive about 280 Km until Solapur via Zahirabad (at 70 km), Homnabad (about 125 Km), Basavakalyan (about 145 Km), Umarga (about180 Km) and Naldurg (220 km).

2.Some tips so that you donâ€™t get confused in Solapur:
Once in Solapur region, remember that NH-9 is commonly known as Hyderabad Road while entering Solapur area and Solapur-Pune Road after that. So, once you are in Solapur, keep on Hyderabad Road or Solapur-Pune Road. At Kautam Chowk NH 9 is the second turn. If you have to ask somebody, ask for Pune Naka Bridge or Pune Highway.

3.After crossing Solapur, keep driving on NH-9 (Solapur-Pune Road) via Indapur and go about 240 Km to reach Pune.

4.Once you reach Pune, take Hadapsar Flyover and continue on NH9. About 7 Km after that turn right on Ambedkar Road (also NH 9). Drive until you reach Sangam Bridge Area.

5.At the intersection of Veer Santaji Gorpade Road and Ambedkar road (before crossing the bridge), turn right to go to NH-4 or Mumbai-Pune Road (towards railway crossing and Indian Airlines Booking Office). In about 100m youâ€™ll be at the roundabout. At roundabout take second turn on NH-4.

6.Drive about 11 Km on NH-4 (Mumbai-Pune Road). Youâ€™ll be crossing Shivaji Nagar, Khadki, Bopadi, Harris Bridge, Sewa Nagar etc. Then turn right on NH-50 (Nasik Road). (There is Hotel White Castle and Sagar Complex at this intersection).

7.Continue straight on NH-50 (Nasik Road) for about 200 Km and reach Nasik.

By Road its about 750km via Pune and by train its just 700km and 7058 Devagiri Express leaves from Secbad at 1.30PM and you can reach Nashik by 3AM.

By Road via Nanded and Aurangabad is not that good.

Train Journey is safe.If you are forced to travel by Road,I recommend you to please go via Pune as it is better
