Scared of india:(?

ok i want to move to Bombay, india for one semester, but over here they show how people blow up places there.. I'm really afraid of getting stuck in a war zone or even being somewhere when people bomb a place:(.. Is it safe for an American Muslim guy to live there for 3-4 months?

I probably wouldn't have been as forceful as b.arnav in my opinion, lol, but I have to say I agree with him. As I mentioned before, I am a westerner and I am moving to India for six months next year. I don't have any kind of fear regarding it. Criminality is rife in the United States - in some ways much worse than in India. As a whole, from my experience, the Muslims of India are not interested in causing trouble and it's very unfair to stereotype them. If there is anywhere you should PERHAPS and I'm not saying that it's a necessity, be wary of visiting is perhaps Jammu and Kashmir in the north where there can sometimes be policitcal unrest on the borders of Pakistan. However, I don't believe you'll be in any danger. The only advice I can give you, is rid yourself of your stereotypical prejudices because, going to someone else's country with the mind set that it's filled with bad people will only make enemies.

I have many Indian friends and I can assure you, they're lovely people!

Note also to Hitori - come on dude! Hindus do not "hate" Muslims. There's more Muslims in India than there are in Pakistan and they seem to be living there alright!

Peoples have a lot of misunderstanding about the great India. India is a democratic country and the people from each community lives here peacefully. A common man of India didn't want any communal clashes but due to some dirty politics it happens some time. but need not to worry India is one of the most safest country among the world. We had full of humanity here.

I used to live in Bombay before I moved to the US several years back. It is one of the best places in the world as far as I am concerned. Like any large city it has it viles and issues primarily brought about by over population and there are parts where you do not want to live but overall a great and beautiful city. Having said all this you may recollect that something more spectacular happened in these United States on 9/11/01.....remember???? I believe you must have stopped visiting NYC after that!

That is total rubbish. Mumbai and the rest of India is very multicultural, and are very tolerant of all religions, and people.

You have more chance of being bombed in America as you would be in Iraq. In America you are more likely to be shot by an ex colleague you worked with and even out while shopping, as what happened last week.

This never occurs in India.Oh and by the way India is not a war zone, and is a very peaceful country. You will be surprised how quickly people will take to you and welcome you within their households. Something that never happens in the western world.

Maybe we should say India is more scared of you., and people like you..

Come visit India once! and I can guarantee you that you will fall in love with this country... Muslims,Hindus,Christians, Sikhs, Parsis, Buddhist...you will see them all here living with peace and harmony.. we celebrate all festivals with same enthusiasm.. and moreover Mumbai is a cosmopolitan city..i am sure You will feel safe and at home here... Welcome to my country...INDIA!!!!

Yes, it's safe if you visit those places which are considered to be safe for Americans. You may have all details from the US Consulates in India....there quite a few of them in India meant for American interest and providing right advise to all American visitors.

Things always look scary from a distance. so, ur fear is natural but......
1. terrorists strike without warning so, nothing to plan
2. A student will be generally having limited activities so u r not likely to be pin pointed.
3. If u r native of usa, ur consulate will take care
ABOVE ALL,
India is basically a land of peace-lovers, you will be received warmly and you will make friends here more easily than anywhere else in the world, this is not my challenge, it is an assurance.
