Should I cancel my vacation to Mumbai, India? |
Because of the recent terrorist attacks, my family and I, which include children (teenagers), are hesitant to go to Mumbai. We are very adventurous people and have traveled the world, but we are rethinking this upcoming trip in December. Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks so much and happy holidays! Additional Details Please pray for everyone in Mambai and India. Be thankful for you health and safety. |

I'm in the same situation as you (and am American). Very difficult to determine, on one hand it seems pretty dangerous but on the other hand it almost feels like we'd be giving the terrorists what they want if we do cancel our visit. Also, I think Mumbai needs that kind of support right now. Would I have gone to NYC a few weeks after 9/11? Absolutely. For now we're still planning on going (dec. 28th), but we'll be keeping a close eye on the situation and on the state department's advisories. If anything else happens, we'll probably modify/cancel.
Also, for those of you attacking the question/timing, there are many time sensitive decisions involving flight bookings/hotel reservations/ TRAVEL INSURANCE deadlines, etc that are involved in a major trip like this. We'll lose thousands of dollars if we cancel and time spent deciding only makes that number go up. While we are praying for everyone affected, it's not out of line to get started on these major decisions. Money saved by making decisions earlier could be used to help the victims, for instance. Money could be better spent than just giving it away to an airline. |

I can hardly believe I am reading this my suggestion is that you have a little thought for those Britons and Americans and of course Indians caught up in this vile attack, Rather typical that you are just thinking about yourselves at this moment in time. Happy Holidays Oh yes when over 250 are injured and over a 100 dead and who knows what will happen to the hostages. Have a little thought for others. India does not need thoughtless tourists. |

Are you American or British? If so stay home or go elsewhere. |

Be continues and be positive, we hope Mumbai will recover all situation as soon as possible, so don’t worry about that and shouldn’t cancel your trip, when you are coming India then you will see more destinations also apart of Mumbai, Terror never repeat the same at same city, its a large example in history,
So be happy and enjoy to trip of Incredible India, |

Not at all... You should surely come... |

It's not crass, the question makes perfect sense... yes, you
should avoid all middle and far-eastern destinations. The
Moslem world is full of violence and as an American you are
a prime target. If you must travel outside the USA, visit the UK
or Austraila... you should be safe there. |

Wow, how crass can you possibly be? Couldn't you at least wait to post this question until *after* things are stablized and people concerned about friends and family have managed to get some word?
The logical thing to do would be to wait until we know who is behind the attacks and why, and what the response of the Indian government will be.
You really should be ashamed of yourself for worrying about this right now. You can wait a day to make this decision. |

I wouldn't. The situation is just too volatile for now. I just can't see things settling down in the next few weeks. There's still going to be a lot of investigation going on if nothing else. I wouldn't travel to that hot spot right now. I wouldn't say it's worth it...although it might be fun. |

Yes, it's better to play safe and cancel your Mumbai trip. Go else where.. |

I think you should. I guess you may want to continue with the vacation plan but switch to other towns or nearly states/countries...
