Well, you guys can stay at a hotel or lodge in Katra. From there you need to climb up 12 kms to Vaishnodevi. There are autos, horses etc. available. But most of the people prefer climbing up on their own. Then, there are a few beautiful spots around such as Patni top etc. The better option would be to go there via tourist pacakge tours. You can find a lot private tours & travels who will arrange it for you. Have a nice time out there. :)
se near jammu station only u will find hotels on cot basis...in one room 20 25 cots kind..if goin in group dis option will be goodn..

1]frm jammu station only u get a bus for katra.once u reach der u need to take a tickect for vaishnodevi..
2]another sight which u can see is PATNI TOP(very beautifulll)..u get cabs..for dis..
3]den u can go for MANSAROVER(again mus watch)..again cab will be better if der's group..
4] den der is a garden which evryone says we must visit "BAAGHE-BAHU", here u will find a beautiful garden,a fort, aquarium..view is very good...also der r a few temples here...u shud visit...

Jammu is famous for vaishno Devi apart from that it does not have any grewat sight seeing place . My advice is to comine your trip with Kasmir and have a great time in Srinagar,gulmarg,sonmarg,pahalgam,Dull lake. there are lot of packaged tour operators for kashmir and vaishno devi
