Best is for you to use a land line. |

There is a little removable chip in your phone called a SIM card. This is what holds all the bandwidth and system information from your phoneset to your service carrier.
I believe Sprint runs on a GSM system, which is the technology type used in most countries. Go to a local carrier in India (ask around) and look for cheap short term calling plans. They will outfit you with a new SIM card that will allow you to make outbound International calls from India on a pre-paid basis.
Luckily, cell phones are becoming ubiquitous in India, so you should have no problem shopping around for a service carrier.
Good luck. |

You could take a connection in India itself. You just wanted to show your identity (Passort with valid visa) in any mobile service provider's show room, you will get connection. In India, the telecommunication is really reasonable...
Try to come to "Kerala - The God's own country" too |

Even if you enable international roaming facility, it would be very expensive. Since non-resident can't get prepaid SIM card easily, try to get the locals (maybe hotel, friend, etc) to get/lend you one. It's very cheap to call out comparing to other countries. Else, there are many public phone booths everywhere. |

I may be possible to use your sprint mobile directly here, there are a few mobile providers here who have tie up with foriegn brands. The call cost will be exorbitant
Also, after bringing your phone here, you can get it unlocked and choose from a number of GSM providers. For $2 you can get a SIM Card and has some talk time and one month validity. You can pay more and increase your validity and talk time.
When you return, just take the instrument to the service provider and tell them its broke. They will give you a brand new one or repair it. |
