the summer is the best time to visit kodaikanal because when it is rainy time means we cant able to go to kodai
the good hotel in kodaikanal is hotel sivapriya kodai kanal
the tourist spots are
Kodaikanal Lake
The lake in Kodaikanal is one of the famous tourist attractions. It’s just 3 kms from the bus stand. This star-shaped lake is situated 2285 m above the sea level and is noted for its clean water. The Golf Club is located 5 kms from the Kodaikanal Lake. Boating, Horse-riding, Cycling, Fishing(arranged by Fisheries Department) all these around this lake make Kodaikanal a perfect holiday resort
Silver Cascade Falls
Situated 8 kms away from the main ghat road is the Silver Cascade Falls noted for its clean & pure water and so the name Silver Falls . The Kodai Lake overflows and falls down here from a height of 180 feet. It is a wonderful scenery not to be missed in Kodaikanal
Coacker's Walk
It is a narrow path (of length 1km) for pedestrians which runs along the steep mountains. A walk along this path will give you a delightful experience and one can view many places such as Pambar river, Dolphin's nose & birds eye view of Periyakulam from here
Bryant Park
Bryant Park is a botanical garden where you can get a wide knowledge on Horticulture and the various flora here are a feast to our eyes. Every year, a show is conducted by the Horticulture Department during the month of May. A huge gathering exists for this exhibition.
Observatory
This is the highest point in the Kodaikanal hills. We can study more about the celestial objects if we observe the sky from a great altitude. With this intention, this research centre was built in 1898. Its director John Evershed discovered the phenomenon of radial motion in sunspots and is known by his name as the Evershed Effect. The observatory has also got a well equipped laboratory. This spot is 6 kms away from Kodaikanal bus stand
Telescope Houses
There are 2 telescope houses in Kodaikanal for the visitors to enjoy the beauty of the surrounding hills, valleys and nearby towns.
Kurinji Andavar Temple
This temple is around 2.5 kms from Kodai Lake and the Deity here is Lord Subramanya. According to Tamil Literature, Lord Subramanya is the God of 'Kurinji' i.e. the hilly region. The Palani Hills and the northern plains can be seen from here.
Pillar Rocks
This is the place where we can see 3 boulders measuring a height of about 122 m each standing side by side vertically offering a spectacular view.
Berijam Lake
Berijam lake which is 21 kms away from Kodaikanal is a beautiful picnic spot. The lake water is clean & pure and fulfills the requirements of the surrounding regions
Dolphin's Nose
This is a spot where lies a flat rock at the edge of the hills, below which there is a great deep of about 6600 feet. This is an awe-inspiring sight though we have wonderful sights throughout the way. It is about 8 kms away from bus stand.
Bear Shola Falls
An ideal picnic spot located 1.6-km from the lake, which can be by a picturesque, rugged hill path. Bears once used to drink water above the falls.
Shenbaganur Museum
Shenbaganur Museum is located about 5-Km from the lake. The Sacred Heart College maintains this museum. One of the best orchidoriums in the country with more than 300 species of orchids and wide-ranging collection of birds are found here.
Outdoor Activities in Kodaikanal
Boating
You will soon discover that most of the entertainment for tourists is Kodai goes on around the lake. Don’t be put off by the hordes of people. There are ways of circumventing this problem. If you happen to be here over a weekend, get away from town on hikes and picnics in the hills, and try again on Monday morning. Get to the lake on weekdays, as early as possible, to beat the rush. A walk around the lake takes about 45 minutes at a brisk pace.
But you may well want to take it slower, and wait and admire the view from this spot and that. It is truly delightful sight and you may find yourself on one of the cement benches (or on the grass), watching the wonderful colors and textures of the landscape.
One get a totally different perspective from a boat ad from the middle of the lake you will get a rich view of the spacious, wooded compounds on its periphery. You can hire a rowing boat, with or without a boatman, at very reasonable rates from the Boat Club.
Cycling
Cycling has become a fad in Kodai, and no wonder. The flat road which rings the lake is an ideal cycling track, and one hopes that in time the authorities will ban motor vehicles and make it the domain of the pedestrian and cyclist. There are cycles for hire, and the rate seems to be Rs. 5 to Rs. 10 per hour. It is really an ideal activity for the whole family; again, try to avoid the “rush hours” unless you love crowds. You can also take short excursions, to Pillar Rocks for example, on a bicycle. It w |
