I live in India and I have never heard about this thing called Tach Mahal. Well dear where is it? Though I have heard lots about Taj Mahal. I have even visited it. Did you mean Taj Mahal??????!!!!! |

As said it is Taj Mahal and one of the seven wonders of the world...It is built fully of white marble.
Shah Jahan,the moghul emperor wanted it to be the only one of its kind. It is said that he cut the fingers of all those people who played a part in building Taj Mahal, so as to ensure a similar monument doesn't come up anywhere in the world. |

Origin and inspiration
Location of the Taj Mahal within India Shah Jahan, who commissioned the monument, was a prolific patron with effectively limitless resources. He had previously created the gardens and palaces of Shalimar in honour of his wife, Mumtaz. After her death in childbirth (she had already borne him fourteen children) Shah Jahan was reportedly inconsolable, and soon after he began construction of the Taj Mahal. His lavish aesthetic and romantic nature is apparent in every aspect of the Taj Mahal. Visiting Agra in 1663, the French traveler François Bernier gave the following description of the Taj Mahal and Shah Jahan's motive for building it:
I shall finish this letter with a description of the two wonderful mausoleums which constitute the chief superiority of Agra over Delhi. One was erected by Jehan-guyre [sic] in honour of his father Ekbar; and Chah-Jehan raised the other to the memory of his wife Tage Mehale, that extraordinary and celebrated beauty, of whom her husband was so enamoured it is said that he was constant to her during life, and at her death was so affected as nearly to follow her to the grave" [3]. |

The builder was named "Shah Jehan" who was an emperor at the time who loved his wife dearly. When she died he wanted to build something awesome as her tomb and as her memory so he built the Taj Mahal. He was also planning on building a black one for himself but he was overthrown before the construction could be completed.
Its a sad thing its not considered in the 7 wonders of the world but its one of the 18 if Im right. |

My understanding is that this Indian Emperor had a wife who he loved dearly. She passed away and he was very sad by her death and he wanted the place where she would be burried close to him and where he could see it as well. He also wanted the place to be beautiful and the Taj Mahal came to life. |

First of all, its taj mahal.
The taj mahal is a mausoleum built by the mughal emperor Shah Jahan during India's early colonial times. It was built for his wife Moomtaz Mahal as a symbol of his love for her (Romantic Eh?). After her death she was placed in the Taj Mahal.
Shah Jahan also planned to build another mausoleum across the river from the Taj out of black marble which would be his own mausoleum. However, his son Aurangzeb, who had come of age to become king imprisoned him on the count that such an ambitious project would drain the kingdoms economy and ruin the quality of life for its citizens.
The Taj is built of a beautiful marble and jewel inlay with writings from the Koran along the walls and corridors. It plays host to many optical illusions. During the daytime the taj absorbs sunlight and at night the marble of the building has a beautiful iridescent glow.
It is definitely worth the visit. |
