What's India like?

I've been wanting to go there. I heard if you're a relatively wealthy American you're pretty much rich over there. Although I also heard it's very inconvenient (sp.?) like you can't drink the water there and there are diseases that are prevalent there.

India is a Great place to vacation, You will have the best of both world (New and the old traditional) which place can you get so much - mesmerizing deserts (jaisalmer - rajasthan) backwaters - Kumarakom, Kerala, enchanting islands like Andaman & Nicobar & Lakhsadweep, history and tons & tons to explore

Yes your money does appricate here ! US$ = 40 to 41 INR

Like in any asian country, would always stick to bottled water and food in proper restaurants & stay in stared hotels

India has every morden amenity & facality for a mature traveller , yes there are some areas still developing , but we are getting there fast
my web site is currently under upgradation or you would have all info on your fingertips

need any info, drop me a line

Cheers

Beautiful. To best describe it, it is where the past meets the present. and together they march to future. On one side of the road, u can see a man speaking on his mobile phone.. on the other u can see a woman carrying a pot water on her head, walking miles to her family. It is just incredible.

Actually, about the wealthy part.. thats actually true. I us $ = around Rs 40.. so, the currency conversion is a fact. Well.. about the water. I live in Kerala (i use US yahoo answers coz it gives faster replies), which is the tip of the Indian Peninsula. My state very green and is rich in water so I never faced such a problem. But, yes it is easy to get diseases as India is a tropical country. It is not the cleanest place in the world but it is livable. Initially might be a shock but it is fine. There r loads of mosquitoes.

honestly, I was looking forward to visiting that country because it just sounds so fascinating. But i was so disappointed and wished I hadnt gone. It's soooo dirty over there and poor and homeless people are all over the streets. It was very sad and made it too difficult for me to enjoy anything, not that there was anything to be enjoyed....

There are so many other contries in which the US dollar goes a long way like malaysia and thailand.

Use bottled water,Take mosquito bed nets, Take a reliable friend or guide, Take accommodation in a at least III Star Hotel and travel to this great country length and breadth.

You will see how lovely is this country.

Here are rich and poor alike. Good and bad roads, hot and cold places, short and long beaches, crowded city or solitary places, local languages and or English, eastern food and Western food, ethnic dresses or Western garments, small shops or big departmental stores, deserts or mountains, rivers or sea, intelligent or ignorant people ....... all at a time. A complete unity in diversity. Feel charming and challenging ?

Know if you visit, remain ignorant if you do not.

India is a beautiful country. Before you visit, make a good plan of your trip according to your liking. If you are interested in history, natural beauty, social cultural diversity then explain the guide about your interests and plan accordingly. Though there are problems with drinking water, mineral water bottles are available at every corner ( for Rs. 12/- per liter, 1 $ = Rs. 40). If you take proper care of drinking water and food then there will not be any health problem. (In case of any medical problem good doctors and hospitals are there. But I am sure you will not need them.) Welcome to INDIA!!!!

It really depends if you have relative or acquaintances living there, if you don't make sure you hire a guide or you will end up just seeing the lower classes of India - I would recommend not moving there permanently because there are way too many things to worry about (e.g. slightly corrupt goverment, whole load of thieves...etc).Anyway if you're just going for a trip talk to a trusted travel agent and you should be fine

Go visit some convienience stores first, so you can get to know the people. If it were that great there would be a lot less of them here.

Well India is really not alot compared to the US.... It's not all that convenient.... And as someone said... It's good if you know people there.... It doesn't have the best streets... but you can get some really good food... Provided u go to the right place... If you wanna have fun at the beach or something... Visit Goa... it's the best during winter... Pune is also a good place to hang and doesnt have very extreme weather conditions... Like too hot or too cold... It's just nice... Oh yea and it will be better if u buy bottled water... or atleast boil your water before you drink it....
India is fun if you know where to go... I hope u like spicy food... and yea there are ways to avoid mosquitoes
