I am an American who has visited India four times in the past 10 years. One trip I made in 2001 was for 3 entire months touring the whole of India from the southernmost tip to the Himalayas. Last year I was there for 1 month.
The first time visitor to India who only has 10 to 16 days would do well to fly into New Delhi, spend a few days there and then making a 'triangle' trip to Jaipur, Rajastan and then to Agra to see the Taj Mahal and then back to New Delhi.
Rajastan is fantastic, it is a state that is very colorful and exotic. Women dress not in saris but colorful gypsy like costumes. Another city in Rajastan is Udaipur with a gorgeous white palace floating in the middle of a large lake. There is also Jodhpur, the blue city, where nearly every house is painted blue!
If you have more time, say three or more weeks, head to the far north - to the beautiful Kulu Valley and the city of Manali. It is like Switzerland or the American Rockies: lovely meadows full of flowers with towering snow covered Himalayan mountains as a back drop.
To get around I suggest you rent a car with a driver. It's not that expensive ... just renting a car cost 90% of the expense. My travel agent in New Delhi is Invicta Tours and Travel in the center of the Pahar Gang market, only a few blocks from the Main Railway Station. |

In my country everything is good rather better. Its culture and civilisation dates back more than 50000 years. It is a good place to go along with your wife and children rather than to along with girlfriend, because of its heritage. That is a land to learn and understand rather that fancy enjoyment( surely fancy enjoyment is there like in any other places). |
