What's the best time of the year to visit India? And, is it better in the north or the south?

It depends what kind of a holiday you are planning. India has a lot to offer, in terms of what to see.
Having said that I feel the best time to visit will be from end November to end February, as the temperature will suit you better.

India is too vast to just simply say what time/area is 'better'. Also my experience is very limited (even though I am from there)

You can visit India throughout the year. Different parts are more pleasant or more activity filled at different times.

But in general, November thru March is pleasant in most parts of the country. If you like monsoon rains (warm rains) like I do, you can typically visit in july thru september.

In the south warm beaches (Lakshadweep is probably the best, Goa is the most touristy), architecture (Madurai, Hampi, Belur etc) can be experienced. Western ghats are favorite hiking spots.

In the north, architecture (Taj Mahal, Qutb Minar, Jantar Mantar etc) is again very prominent. The Himalayas good for hiking (summer) and skiing. The north west has the deserts and sand (rajastan).

The east has rain forests and lots of rain :). There is so much more!

i think the best time in india is to visit during autumn and that too in south. it is beautiful and enchanting. for more information go to this link.you'll get everything about india

I would recomend the north, probably in the winter when its cold. It gets hot in the summer, but up north its always cooler, and definently see the Taj Mehal, in pictures its something else but in person its the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. Be careful too it is a third world country.

Having travelled nearly all over India, I suggest that the BEST time is October to February. The North has nice has nice historical places and Forts. The South has some quaint hill stations and temples. Do not forget the backwaters of Kerala !!! They are absolutely superb.

theboy!
