What are the best places to visit India during Mid-April? |
I am travelling with my boyfriend and we only have 8-9 days. Don't want to make it a hectic trip so we will probably stay in one region. We like off-beat places with a base station in small city so we can get to know the local Indian culture. We can also deal with heat as far as it doesn't get uncomfortable and mosquitoes dont attack; ) |

Mid April is school holiday season so it will be fairly crowded everywhere. Try Kerala - Cochin - Munnar - Periyar WLS. You could make cool Munnar (1800m) your base and do day trips from there. You can skip Cochin city and go straight from the international airport at Nedumbassery. In this case, go via Thattekadu Bird Sanctuary - spend a night there and then proceed to Munnar.
Alternately, try the hill stations of Himachal Pradesh - Shimla, Kullu, Manali, or Uttaranchal - Nainital etc., as in N India, the school holidays start in May, but mind you the rest of India will have congregated there to beat the heat !
Buy a tube of Odomos to beat the mossies.
Happy holidays |

I've been there and I suggest that once you arrive, you quickly turn around and buy a ticket out.
Have fun! (although I don't know how...) |

Besides what mahua has suggested above, during mid April - Mount Abu in Rajasthan, Dalhousie and Manali could be other places fitting into your requirements, small, calm and beautiful places offering plentiful in the vicinity to explore. |

Please visit Sikkim. Beautiful place. Good food. Quiet and astounding nature views, especially North Sikkim. No mosquitos and pleasant cool weather.
You can also enjoy Himachal Pradesh, Shimla and Kinnaur districts. Amazing weather, beautiful nature and hospitable people, good food. |
