I think the impunctuality, unreliability, crashing, etc is mostly associated with Air Deccan, who pioneered the LCA model in India. Though they did a great thing by trying this model, and making air travel accesible to all, they really coundn't put up a professional show.
But if you take away Air Deccan, I guess SpiceJet and GoAir are doing pretty well in terms of performance. They fly limited sectors, but fly them well. LCA model is here to stay in India - it's been a success in Europe and USA, and will be so in India as well.
And when, finally, Air Deccan will get some real competetion, then perhaps they will be compelled to improve their service. Remember, Indian Airlines (now Indian) monopolized the Indian skies for a long time, and in the course did everything in unprofessional manner.
The more the competition, the more cheap air fares and better service. |
