I have been to Marocco before and I can tell you that you will see extreme poverty and a complete different lifestyle.
I'm sure you'll have a great time but be aware that you will always be spotted as a "tourist". People on the street will ask you for money and do this in a very pushy way. Try to be as cool with it as possible then they'll eventually let go of you.
A second thing is that Caucasians are usually expected to be rich so be also aware of pickpockets.
I wish you a great journey, I bet it will be really exciting - and don't worry too much! :) |

you are in for the ride of your life. it is unlike anything you have ever experienced.
you'll see everything. poverty that makes homeless americans look rich, diseases that you thought were wiped out, and also rich tech centers, middle class indians that are just like middle class americans, and much more.
there is no street crime. you will not be mugged or attacked at all, and you will feel safer walking the streets. the people are wonderful and friendly. some are friendly to the point of being a busybody, but that's just compared to american standards of privacy. in india, if you're in public, you're fair game to talk to. they love americans, love practicing their english.
2 words of warning:
1. don't get conned. you won't be mugged but there are con artists. keep your money in your pocket. don't give to beggars, at all, despite how sad it is. you can't help them all, and there are lots of scams and organized groups of beggars, like pimps they have to give most of their money to at the end of the day.
2. be careful about food and drink. do NOT drink any unbottled water. do NOT use any ice. no slushees. drink soda out of the bottle, not out of glass that might be wet from being washed. for food, don't eat any fruit you didn't peel yourself, and don't eat any uncooked vegetables. don't eat from streetside food stands.
oh, it's best not to wear shorts, or even tshirts. respectfully cover up.
india is amazing. have fun, keep an open mind, be very very very patient (things can take forever, going to the bank or to eat can take hours.), try to see what they have to offer you instead of trying to control your environment. have a great time. |

You will see alot of bugs. Women with dots on their head, and camels right in the middle of the roads. Ive been there 2 times for buisness. You will learn not to take so many things for granite, a lot of India is in poverty, some is very sad. But you will have a great time. Try to go in quiet areas and you will discover a way to be more peacfull. You have to be carefull with who your around, when i went, i just stayed at a hotel and went to a spa. I really just went for buisness, I advise you to do the same. |
