A lot of change..all towards development, better roads and telecom facility. More services in everything you see and want to do. Remarkable competition between private and public sector which results in the good of consumer. Better policing and security on roads. We are after all the "emerging asian tigers".

Loads of shopping centers loads of friendly people who are more educated and are getting a bit open minded so you won't be looking at people with blank looks.

Depends where u go... in "India" u can find basic westernization u could call it with huge investments in modernization. Even or rickshaw-wallas, pandits, etc carry cell phones!

but if u look at "bharat" its basically still where it was 10 yrs ago

Depends where you go. I went at the beginning of this year to a variety of places - as a backpacker. Bangalore is incredibly modern, but in other places such as parts of Rajastan there is no electricity for several hours of the day. I still found things to be quite basic - but then for most of the time I was on quite a low budget. There are certainly good modern hotels and facilities around, but still a huge amount of poverty with varying extremities of beggars. Levels of hygiene are often quite low compared to standards in the UK and I was sick quite often. Sadly there doesnt seem to be much of a refuge collection system so there is often alot of litter in very beautiful places. I had a great time though - it's still an amazing experience and I imagine there has been a load of of development in the past ten years. Think it's coming to the end of the rainy season at the moment. The best time to go for climate is December to March.
