You are at mistake the day is not merely establishing government.

It is Republic Day. On 26th January 1950, our Constitution came into force. The rights particularly fundamental rights have come into existence and strengthened the democracy.

We became, an Independent Republic, on 26 th January 1950. Every year it is celebrated as 'Republic Day'. Although, we got our independence, on 15th August 1947 (Independence Day), India was under Commonwealth of Nations, owing allegiance to Queen of England, like Australia.

Republic day.....the indian constitution came into force on 26th january 1950.....indian constituent assembly lead by Dr.Amedkar and six other members drafted this constitution...it took around 2 yrs 11 mon 8 days to draft this constitution and was finished in November but came into force only in January.......

Republic Day.....It is not about setting up the government. Actually the Constitution of India came into effect from this day..Earlier to that i.e from 15th Aug to 25thJan we had a Governer-General, after that Mr. Rajendra prasad became first President of Republic India.

Dude, sorry to say that but this is really shameful!! Being an Indian we should have more knowledge of our country, heritage and history.

We celebrate Republic Day on this particular day - India achieved its soverign secular republic & democratic freedom on this particular day. We celebrate Republic day - Because our Indians prepared self constitution - stating Legislative, Judiciary & Parliament affairs. On this particular day president will hoist the flag & Governors in States and District Collectors in their representing Districts.
