This knowledge comes to me rather too late.
Last year, when I was admitted (for a brief investigation,) to a Mumbai hospital, smart Malloo nurses were the only OASIS in my humdrum routine. I was NOT bed ridden & could circulate freely within the hosp corridors.In those days,I wish I knew some malayalam . Perhaps Swagatham / vaaru could have helped me to break ice, alas!

yep defo swagatham but most mallu's use welcome when saying as a reply to thanks and in terms of welcoming someone into your home then you'd say varu but that is more colloquial!
