Vande Mataram!
Sujalam, suphalam, malayaja shitalam,
Shasyashyamalam, Mataram!
Shubhrajyotsna pulakitayaminim,
Phullakusumita drumadala shobhinim,
Suhasinim sumadhura bhashinim,
Sukhadam varadam, Mataram!
The English translation of the stanza rendered by Sri Aurobindo in prose 1 is:
I bow to thee, Mother,
richly-watered, richly-fruited,
cool with the winds of the south,
dark with the crops of the harvests,
The Mother!
Her nights rejoicing in the glory of the moonlight,
her lands clothed beautifully with her trees in flowering bloom,
sweet of laughter, sweet of speech,
The Mother, giver of boons, giver of bliss.
Dont get confused between National Song and National Anthem.
There is a minor difference between a national anthem and a national song. A national anthem is that the anthem reflects the history and the culture of the country and everybody has to pay their respects to it by giving a standing ovation whenever the song is played. The national anthem represents a particular country. A national song is a song written for a country and does not bear that much of a significance as of the national anthem. It is not mandatory to sing the national song
Vande Mataram is the National Song. |

Ignorancee about our national song is not creditable for an Indian citizen.
Any way, today is your begining day in Yahoo Q&A community so I have become the first to answer your query.
National song of India is "Janagana mona adhinayaka Jaya he, bharata Bhagya Bidhata........" The song was written and composed by India's first Nobel prze winner Rabindra nath Tagore. Another song "Bande Mataram..." written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee and music composed by Rabindranath although is not the official National song but given similar status as national song.
Surprisingly most of the answerer said 'Vande mataram' as national song and ''Janagana mona' as national anthem, "Anthem" means 'any ceremonial song sang in prayers' . 'Janagana Mana ' is a song sang in the prayer that is why this song is called "National anthem" declared on 24th January 1950. There should not be any contradiction that our national song is 'Janagana mana'. |
