Well hi Lizzie are you Hilary Duff just kidding
Well India is a great country with lots of cultures & languages. We have a lot of places to visit as like Jammu & Kashmir to Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
The best states to visit in Northern India are Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Delhi, & Punjab and also Rajasthan and some parts of Uttar Pradesh like Kashi, Mathura, and also the city of Taj Mahal (Agra).
And in the rest of India places like Goa, North Eastern India, South India.
We have everything. We have coastal areas, Himalayas, deserts and also plain areas. Some one says don’t go there. If you think like him you will lose something as like you miss to visit a good country.
Some people says that Indians are poor. Yes so many people are poor but they are in America too but I think if you hate poor people in spit of helping them.
You are the most selfish person in the Earth.
We have slums but we have buildings also and still India has got its independence since 59 years. That’s why it’s a New Nation but an ancient country.
They says India is very hot but they saw only the hot places in India but India has a lot go to Himalayas.
Bye and take care India is a good country.

Get yourself a copy of the Lonely Planet Guide for India. There are additional exhaustive guides for each region of India. Its allows you to plan your trip depending upon your budget suggesting lodging & food joints that suit your pocket. It also has some real good advise and tips for travellers.

For a first visit, decide what you realy want to see, sun, snow, jungles, ancient monuments, forts & palaces, or just life in general.

Would suggest that you stick to a region for one trip otherwise India will be too troublesome to cover and enjoy.

The people are normally helpful but women are advised to travel in groups or with someone they know particularly in Northern India.
Get ready for some culture shock as you will see some real extremes in life.

India is a vast country and a country of joy for pilgrimage - Chardham in Himalayas,Chola temple in south,Magnificent churches in Goa, Golden temple of Amritsar, the miracle temple of Jagannath in Puri, the Dargah of Moinnudin Christi of Ajmer, magnificent temple of Dilwara Jain temple on mount Abu, unimaginable art of temples of Ajanta and Ellora, Amarnath Cave in Jammu and Kashmir, Kedarnath and Badrinath temples, Jama Masjid of Srinagar, Iscon temple at Mayapuri, Buddist shrin at sanchi, Malayattoor Church near Kochi are worth seeing for spiritual minds. Historical palaces and monuments like Taj Mahal, Maharaja's palaces at Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Mysore are famous for their architecture. Kashmir is famous for natural
beauty, many hill stations like Kullu, Manali, Nainital, Ooty, Kodaikanal, sand dunes and art of Jaisalmer and a lot of beautiful places to visit. A seven star hotel on ship in Goa is also a tourist attraction. Vivid food and festivals are added attraction. Its a land of joy and pleasure for every taste of tourists.

Great for the value for money in food and accomodation .The latter is best in the smaller towns however,as the larger cities are pricy, comparatively for the hotel rooms.

Go with a friend and enjoy a booming ecoomy in the making , and see democracy delights and independence.

It can be a culture shock to the unwary, but to the open minded it is a series of object lessons in the human spirit.

There is the matter of its vast size, every journey is an expedition. Internal flights are a necesity unless you are going to one place and staying there (not advised as there is so much to see.) The road are not all brilliant and the traffic in the big cities is to be seen to be believed. (I asked a taxi driver in Delhi 'who has right of way?' he said 'the biggest and the bravest' and proudly pointed out the dents on his car...)

The food can be wonderful if you are careful and don't fall into the belief that it is all much the same (as it can be served elsewhere in the world) the variety is amazing and a long history of religious vegetarianism has led to the development of a hugely varied and rewarding vegetarian cuisine. That said for non-veggies the seafood in Goa/Kerela is reckoned to be among the finest in the world...

There are some fabulous monuments and links to millenia of history. The Jantar Mantar (observatories) at Jaipur, built in the early 18th Century and still working perfectly are stunning, the neglect of the sites they are on could make you weep but thats what I mean about culture shock.

There is obvious poverty but don't be fooled. This is not western 'poverty' where people who have enough but are to lazy and useless to do anything about their lives just slob around, these people may not be asset rich (yet) but they are working like crazy to get on, look at the works at the roadside, ladies carrying rubble on baskets on their heads yet dressed in beautiful saris showing dignity and pride in the work that betters their future. be inspired.

I could go on... Visit Agra for the Taj Mahal but don't forget the Red Fort (stand in the room where Shah Jahan stood and reflected on the Taj and his lost wife) the Amber fort, the Ghandi memorial in Delhi... Think about what was going on around the world at that Time (Shah Jahan was roughly contemporary with the English Civil War).

Go, go with an open mind, don't drink water unless the bottle is given to you unopened, don't give money to beggars (you will be surrounded in seconds and it can be very frightening) if you want to help (and you will) give to Temples or Mosques (Masjids) where the money will be properly used and not find its way into the hands of the 'Fagin-like' characters who run the teams of children at the tourist sites...

Listen out for the term 'My India'. I have a postcard which says 'I love My India', hand drawn by a very enterprising young girl who explained that she was poor but did not beg as she was going to be a businesswoman... You hear it more and more and it speaks of the pride of a nation getting confident with itself. She then (all of 6/7 years old) explained that the capital 'M' was not an error but that she was using it 'in the sense of the definite article' as a statement!

It will all depend from where you are. For example, I really enjoyed my stay in India some three years back. The real thing about your lodging is that you must bargain in non-chain hotels. Since you intend to visit the country, all you will really need is a good bed and an attached bathroom. Interesting places and buildings - Taj Mahal, Madhurai Temple, Red Fort, Shimla, Nainital, Rishikesh, Chor Bazar, Puttaparthi, Goa, Banglore. The funny side is to organise your own tour without having to go around with an organised group. You may wish to extend your stay in different places without having to disrupt a schedule. One more tip is to buy whatever thing you may find interesting beacuse you may not find same article else where. Different places have different products. Better have veg food - I did not trust the meat dish. About currency - always change at authorised money dealers even if you get better rates else where. Communication available at most areas, pay per minute or through mobile operators. Play safe - drink bottled water. Do not display your wallet openly. Buy a movie ticket well ahead and enjoy at least a local movie before leaving India.
