Lipitor, along with diet and exercise, helps lower your cholesterol and also reduces the risk of heart attack and stroke in people with multiple risk factors for heart disease including family history, high blood pressure, age, low HDL ("good" cholesterol), or smoking.

My dad takes it, and I've heard that the serius side effects are liver problems.. I would be very careful, I would rather stick to diet and exercise..

According to Wikipedia, Lipitor,:

"Atorvastatin (INN) (IPA: [əˈtɔvəˌstætn]), is a member of the drug class known as statins, used for lowering cholesterol and thereby reducing cardiovascular disease. Atorvastatin inhibits a rate-determining enzyme located in hepatic tissue used in cholesterol synthesis, which lowers the amount of cholesterol produced. This also has the effect of lowering the total amount of LDL cholesterol.

With 2005 sales of US$12.2 billion under the brand name Lipitor, it is the largest selling drug in the world."

Lipitor is a prescription drug used to treat high cholesterol. Don't know exactly how it works, but it consists of a calcium base and a statin-type drug. Lipitor has been shown to be effective at lowering total cholesterol and LDL, or "bad" cholesterol, but there are some side effects, the worst being the possibilty of liver damage if you take it for too long.
