The Indian Postal System follows a PIN Code System (Postal Index Number) as against the US ZIP Code. The PIN Code for New Delhi is 110001 which covers most of central Delhi and its adjoining areas. This will include the GPO Post office .

Hard to say really I have never had to directly send mail there. Although I sponsor a child in India but her mail is forwarded via Singapore. Have you tried Australia Post I am sure they can help. I'll look it up for you: like any country each state/county/province etc has it's own there are many depending on what area you require in Delhi 110048 is one, etc.
