What is the best road route to follow if travelling from Pune to Ooty?
I am planning to visit Ooty in April. What is the best & shortest rout by road to Ooty from Pune? The road dist? How much time will it take to drive by car? Which is the best way to break this long journy? Please friends I need ur valuable inputs and lots of information. Additional Details Thanx - kasim05m, savy, leobabyi, gsam,... for your help.
@kasim - the route is great, but it is about 250km extra than NH4 route.
Start early. Dont drive more than 10-12hrs a day, and enjoy the scenery when it is good. Expect some roadworks in the 4 laning project on NH4. From Pune take NH4 as far as you can go - preferably atleast upto Chitradurga. Stay at any of the many hotels along or off the highway. Next day proceed towards Bangalore, byepass and go upto Mysore or outskirts - night halt. From Mysore take the Ooty road which goes upto Gudalur but from Theppekadu junction take the very short cut via Masinagudi which goes uphill all the way to Ooty. This is a good road very scenic. April will be tourist season in Ooty so book hotels etc early. Hotel Tamil Nadu is safe and well located, you can book online at tamilnadutourism.org

Better to come up to coimbatore by flight
from coimbatore Ooty is hardly 150 Kms/ 03 Hrs journey.
