What is the best way to travel in India?

Taking into consideration for a middle class citizen budget wise. I heard food there is VERY cheap. Where is the best places to lodge? If you wanted to see Rishikesh, Mumbai, and Agra what is the best inter-India method of travel? Also give some travel tips if you have any good ones....

Travel by RAIL is the best.

It is very cheap, safe, fast and you can reach places easily. Only think it is not clean like in western countries. If you can afford you can travel by higher classes and it will be good. You can get advance reservation also and enjoy the travel...Best of Luck ...

India is well connected through excellent railway network. Travelling in trains like "Palace on Wheels" and "Oriental Express" is an unique experience you won't get anywhere else on earth. Major cities are connected through air too. Lodging in Agra and Mamba is not a problem because you get all kind of hotels. Rishikesh is full of Ashrams and Dharmshalas that allow you to stay free or with nominal donation as long as you abide by the "clean" food practises such as abstaining from non-veg and alcohol.

Beware of pick pockets at crowded places. Also stick to pre-paid, taxis at airports and railway stations.

Hey.......... a grand congrats 4 your choice to visit the land of diversities "INDIA". Coming to the ans.
1. Here u can get extremly delicious and awesome food, that to at cheap rates. I dn't know your nationality. yet If you try yhe ethnic Indian food, being in India would rejoice you much much more.
2. Actually, the cities you have mentioned are the hubs of tourism.so LODGING isn't a pretty good issue. You can well accomodate the 3-star lodges as well as the 5-star Grands.
Yet with an economic eye.... you may beter opt for the Busines hotels.
3. On a tour to India..... mind to be ready for some rush in the conveyance.yet not a great trouble. As you wanna enquire of the travel routes... you may better hire some guide...or aso try hit the Indian Tourism website. We here haveebassies of all the nations...so you may also seek help and guidance from your ntion's embassy while plannig to visit or wen in India.
4. Do tale a note of the weather conditions. In the forth coming months Its gonna be a typically warm ( actually hot)
here.
5. Also care for hygiene.
6. One special advise: when visitng the temple shrines do take care of the regulations and obligatons ( as they matter much to us).
7. ENJOY>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>....... to the utmost..... You will be fcinated with the greatnes and gesture of the land.

Bye... and If u wanna help mail me : neoneurons@yahoo.co.in

P.S. : We Indians welcome u warmly

For Rishikesh and Agra, u can make it from Delhi, it is about 5.30 hrs travel from delhi to Rishikesh, via Haridwar. Buses plight from ISBT, Delhi every 5 min and u can also have trains up to haridwar.
Agra is quiet in opposite direction.
Agra is well connected by road as well as by train. 3.00 + hrs travel from delhi. (on the way u can have a glance at Mathura, considred to be Birth place of Lord Krishna)

Then make it to Mumbai by train its about a nights travel. There daily trips are arranged by many tourist groups named as Mumbai darshan or Mumbai Safari. It is better to join them u can cover almost 80% of Mumbai's tourist spots. They will charge u a minimal (before three years it was 100 Rs.)

The best way to travel in India is by Rail. The country has an extensive rail net work and the fares are quite affordable. You can opt for 2-AC travel. There are specific circular Tourist routes which may match your plan.Check on www.indianrail.govt.in/ More over train provides you with the view of the coutry side.Regarding stay select reputated 3 star hotels and check out the references with friends.Keep only required currency with you in travel and avoid out of the way friendly soliciters.Take food supplied by train pantry only while travelling. For road travell use authorised taxis and check the fare card in advance.

Hum good questions if you want to travel at cheap price you can travel by train but for that you need time you can also take some budget class airfares if you don't have much time. For the cheap hotels you can visit the site and ask for best deals on hotels holidayclubindia.net .. tell them the places you want to visit they have good deals. bye

India is a very crowded country and is considered as an underdeveloped country. The roads are broken and dusty. Your first stop should be Mumbai, the capital. There, most people speak English do you won't have communications problem. Buy a domestic package from there to the rest of the cities your mentioned. You can save on others such as foods but don't stinge on accommodation for safety. Never put all your monies in one place, leave some in your pants, bag, hotel safe, etc.. Eat like the locals do although the foods need getting used to. Travel smart and avoid being too friendly to strangers. Oh, there are lots of petty thefs so do watch your baggages too. Keep you travel document safe and make some photocopes of them and place it in your bag, hotel safe, suitcases, etc..
