Air India. Of course there are cheaper ones like Air Bangladesh or some middle eastern airlines, but I would suggest Air India for being cheap among the better ones in terms of reliability and service and good routes and short wait periods if you need to change planes midway. Generally they have tie-ups with other international airlines.
Next cheapest among the better airlines is Delta, but it is still way over Air India.
And if you want to know the cheapest way to travel IN india, then there are numerous including trains, hiring a taxi, etc.

Cheapest way to travel to India is by becoming an Indian.

Yes. I mean it.

By saying be Indian I mean to say be part of this country. Dont keep a taste for luxurious hotel and food you will get the best food at cheapest rate on the rodeside dhabas(small cottage hotels). Dont make a preference only for Air travel or First class train travel, you can travel at cheap prises in bus or even in truck by asking for lift. and the list goes on.....

Just come down once and experience it yourself.

go to your nearest travel agent, get an open ticket, wait at the air port ever time a flight leave for india, if a traveller don't show you can take that seat This is the lowest fare. But don't know when you will make there.
