its nautanki... n it was a name given to street acts or small time theatre.. but ppl started using it for saying "nautank mat kar" as in don't act (or act funny)

Nau-Tangi means over reacting to something which doesn't look real and looks more like an act of drama or play as performed on the platform of stage.It also means that someone who has met you cannot accept your style of talking and over reacts himself as well or cannot digest on what u have said or done.Its sometime termed as one saying in gesture or feeling over reacted to.

it is not "nou-tangi" it is nautanki.. it means acting like street people who show a lot of attitude and show off a lot. doing a lot of masti.
