When I was young it was Darjeeling by a long chalk. Friends tell me not to go as I would be disappointed. Now my favourite place in India is New Alipore, Calcutta!

If your a visitor, the favorite places should be back water in Kerala, Srinagar - Kashmir and the entire Himachal Pradesh.
If you want to settle, the best place should be again Kerala followed by Punjab.
